Novel Copolymers of N-Isopropylacrylamide and Vinyl Ether of Ethyleneglycol

Abstract

Novel water-soluble and crosslinked copolymers of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAM) and vinyl ether of ethylene glycol (VEEG) were synthesized by copolymerization of NIPAAM with its content of 10-70 mol.% in initial monomer mixture with VEEG. Reactivity of comonomers were evaluated by dilatometry and Tosi method as well as compositions of copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR-spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Data on viscosity and turbidimetry of NIPAAM-VEEG copolymer aqueous solutions demonstrate their thermosensitive properties. The swelling behaviour of the copolymer hydrogels as a function of both adsorbed dose and copolymer composition in water and ethyl alcohol was evaluated. The effect of the copolymer composition on a volume phase transition of gels was also investigated.
